Bulding Documentation Projects

Façade Documentation

City of Leoben - 2008

Laser scan data was collected in 2 and 3D in order to produce the façade documentation for the city. This was a pilot project the city of Leoben initiated to compare different methods of facade documentation, due to the cultural heritage of the inner district of the city. The city of Leoben is the most important site for the Austrian mining industry. The world famous Montanuniversität resides there. This is the centre for mining and foundry technology. Therefore this city has a very long tradition in mining documented in the buildings of the old city centre. Wealthy mine owners, miners, steel producers etc. documented their wealth in decorating their facades.

Indoor surveying of the staircases of the viennese Musikverein concert building

KS Ingenieure ZT GmbH - 2006 - http://www.musikverein.at/dermusikverein/galerie/index.asp

Met Geo Info surveyed two of the stairwells at the Viennese Musikverein Concert Hall using the latest in laser scanning equipment.

The entire building has undergone complete refurbishment as the founding started to drown. During these construction works a new emergency / fire escape plan had to be installed, including new fire detectors, sprinklers. As the staircases are one of the main exit routes in case of emergency, they had to be reworked too. The problem was, that the railings were old cast iron artwork and therefore under special protection.

Architectural Documentation of the former Verkehrsbuero

Miedler ZT GmbH - 2007

Met Geo Info were contracted to produce façade documentation from 3D laser scan data for the Verkehrsbuero, art deco building which has formed a travel agency since 1923.

The former Verkehrsbuero building is one of the art deco icons of Vienna. As it is a standalone building – there are no neighboring buildings, quite unique in the city - it can be regarded as a landmark. Quite a time ago, the building was abandoned and stood empty. In 2007 Novomatic (Casinos, Gaming industry) took occupation of the building to set up a new company headquarter for representational purpose. The building is protected and therefore the facade must not be changed. Furthermore there is an art deco indoor perron (protected) which had to be preserved during the construction work. Pointcloud data from the laser scans was used to produce an orthophoto further used for drawing a 2D facade plan of the building.
